Player pathway

Every player deserves the right support at the right time.

Alberta Soccer follows the Long Term Player Development (LTPD) model, which supports players based on their stage of growth. This approach ensures every player trains, learns, and competes in an environment suited to their physical and emotional development. With a focus on fun, inclusion, and lifelong participation, the pathway helps players enjoy the game, build confidence, and reach their potential — whether they play for life or strive for elite levels.

High-Performance development center

Raising the Game in Alberta

Alberta Soccer is launching a Licensed High-Performance Development Center in Calgary, set to open in 2024. Aligned with Canada Soccer standards, this centre offers advanced training and development for players with the potential to reach national or professional levels.

Players can be recommended by club technical directors or apply directly, including submitting video footage. The program will focus on creating a structured, inclusive environment with top-level coaching and development opportunities.

This initiative reflects our commitment to providing more high-level training options, especially for female players in Alberta.

Excellence Stream

Pathways for Elite Development

The Excellence Stream is designed for players aiming to move toward national team programs or professional clubs. Built on Long Term Player Development principles, this stream provides structured, high-level environments for Alberta’s most promising athletes.

Currently supported through:

  • Academy Centres (for male players)
  • Regional EXCEL (REX) Centres (for female players)

Targeting players aged U14 to U17, the Excellence Stream is player-focused, coach-led, and supported by our partnership with Cavalry FC and other leading soccer organizations.

financial
assistance

Alberta Soccer is committed to making the game accessible by supporting players and families facing financial barriers. Through partnerships with trusted organizations, we help ensure that cost is never a reason to miss out on the benefits of soccer.

District / Community
Outreach

Bringing Soccer to Every Corner of Alberta

Alberta Soccer’s District and Community Outreach Program helps clubs and communities across the province grow strong, inclusive, and sustainable soccer environments. Through this program, we provide:

  • Development clinics and camps for players and goalkeepers
